Poland • Cracow and its surroundings
Małopolska is one of the most beautiful regions of Poland.
Situated between Tatra Mountains and calcium rocks of Cracow-Częstochowa Jura, Małopolska passes through the ancient Vistula River valley. The wild beauty of its landscapes is one of the highlights of the region.
Cracow – ancient capital of Poland – is nowadays not only its spiritual centre but also one of the most visited cities.
Małopolska region has 8 sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
Małopolska region has 6 national parks. One of them is Tatra National Park which covers the only Polish high mountain landscape area. In 1992 TPN (Tatra National Park) and TANAP (situated in Slovakia) were designated as a International Biosphere Reserve of the UNESCO.
All the traditions (legends, ancient customs, local art transmitted from generation to generation) make the Małopolska region a unique place.
Culinary art is a part of national heritage. The taste of żurek (sour rye soup), oscypek (smoked cheese made of sheep’s milk), Cracow’s precels, sausage (kiełbasa krakowska), cream cake from Wadowice (John Paul’s II favourite cake) delight all the visitors.
